A atriz Chrissy Metz é quem direciona toda a narrativa, sendo o ponto-chave para qualquer tipo de sentimento que transborda em tela: a dor, a dúvida, a certeza e a força misturam-se em sua atuação que, para dizer o mínimo, é bem marcante. O mesmo não pode-se dizer do pai Brian ( Josh Lucas), que está bem no papel mas mantém-se à sombra de Chrissy (inclusive por mal permanecer no quarto de hospital do filho por não ter coragem de vê-lo em coma).
